Angel One API setup for Firefly: a trading-only key in 10 minutes.
Angel One's SmartAPI is the lowest-friction broker API for Terra and the broker we recommend. There is no monthly fee for the trading API; you create an app, enable TOTP, and share the key on the onboarding call. No Angel One account yet? - An active Angel One trading and demat account with KYC complete
- Your client code and the mobile number on the account
- An authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy or similar)
Go to smartapi.angelbroking.com and create a developer login with the email and mobile on your trading account. Verify the OTP.
Under My Apps choose Create an App, type Trading API, name it Firefly, and set the redirect URL we give you on the call (a placeholder such as https://fintrens.com/ is fine to start). Save. The API key is shown on the app card.
Open smartapi.angelbroking.com/enable-totp, log in with your client code and password, and scan the QR code into your authenticator app. Firefly's login uses this TOTP; keep the app on your phone.
API key, client code, and the TOTP secret (the text under the QR, not a 6-digit code). Your trading password is never asked for.

- Positions, holdings and margin (read)
Never grant
- Fund withdrawal — SmartAPI does not offer it to apps; nothing to disable
- Profile changes
Share securely
Paste the credentials into the onboarding form we send after the call (encrypted at rest, visible only to the onboarding engineer). We confirm connectivity on the call and you watch the first read-only calls succeed before any order is placed. Rotate the key at the broker at any time — Firefly stops the moment it is revoked.
Troubleshooting
Invalid TOTP
Clock drift on the phone. Re-sync time in the authenticator app's settings and try again.
AB1004 / login blocked
Password changed recently or the account is locked at Angel One. Reset via the Angel One app, then log in on the SmartAPI portal once manually.
App not visible after creation
Refresh My Apps; approvals are immediate for Trading API but the card can take a minute to appear.
