Algo trading for NRIs in the UAE and Gulf: India and US
For NRIs in Dubai, the UAE and the Gulf: algo trading on Indian equities via an NRI account and on US stocks via Alpaca or IBKR. Why crypto is not offered yet.

Non-resident Indians in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and the wider Gulf are among the most active retail investors in Indian markets, and increasingly in US stocks. This page says plainly what Firefly's algo trading offers a UAE-based NRI today, what the account plumbing looks like, and what is not on offer.
Indian equities on an NRI account
Firefly Terra runs on any supported Indian broker account with API access — Angel One, Zerodha — including NRI accounts. Orders are placed on your account through a trading-only API key; funds stay in your NRE/NRO-linked demat and bank. Delivery-based equity strategies run without restriction. Derivatives for NRIs are limited by RBI and exchange rules (position limits, and F&O only on an NRO basis at brokers that support it); the onboarding call sets which families run. Pledged margin from existing holdings works for NRO accounts where the broker allows pledging.
US stocks from the UAE
Firefly Nova trades US large caps and index options through Alpaca or Interactive Brokers. A UAE resident opens either account directly with local KYC; because the money is not remitted from India, the Liberalised Remittance Scheme does not apply. Nova is in early access: paper mode first, then small live capital, with the daily consensus public on Signals · US.
Crypto: not in the UAE, for now
Dubai regulates virtual-asset services through VARA and Abu Dhabi through ADGM's FSRA; a provider offering trading bots to UAE residents is expected to be licensed. Firefly Meta is offered to Indian residents on Binance and is not marketed to UAE residents until licensing is in place. We would rather say that than pretend otherwise.
Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain
The same applies across the Gulf: Terra on an NRI account for Indian equities, Nova on US stocks through Alpaca or Interactive Brokers opened as a resident of your country, no LRS involved. Crypto is not offered to Gulf residents. Time zones are three to ninety minutes behind IST, so Indian-market orders go in during your morning and US-session reports arrive overnight.
Advice and registration
Fintrens is a software company, not a SEBI-registered investment adviser and not licensed by the SCA, DFSA or FSRA. Firefly executes rules you choose to run on your own account; nothing on this site is a recommendation. An adviser licensed where you live can tell you whether systematic trading suits you.
Start from Dubai
Watch Signals for a few weeks, read the India guide and the start checklist, then book a call — slots are listed in IST; UAE is 90 minutes behind.
Questions people ask
Can an NRI in Dubai use Firefly Terra?
Yes, on an NRI trading account (NRE or NRO with PIS where the broker requires it) at a supported Indian broker with API access. Equity delivery works; F&O for NRIs is restricted to what the broker and exchange permit under RBI rules, which we confirm on the onboarding call.
Can an NRI use Firefly Nova for US stocks?
Yes. Nova trades through Alpaca or Interactive Brokers; UAE residents open those accounts directly, with no LRS limits because remittance from the UAE is not under Indian exchange control.
Is crypto trading available in the UAE?
Not from Firefly at present. Dubai's VARA licenses virtual-asset services, and we do not offer Meta to UAE residents until that licensing is in place.
How are gains taxed?
The UAE has no personal income tax. Indian equity gains for NRIs are taxed in India with TDS deducted by the broker; US stock gains for UAE residents are generally subject to US withholding on dividends only. Take advice for your own situation; we are not tax advisers.
